Poinsettia Paper Flowers – An Easy Christmas Craft

Do you like to display live poinsettias in your home at Christmastime.  I know there are some people who love them and some people who really don’t like them at all. The problem I have is keeping the poinsettia alive through the Christmas season (ha, ha)!  So, today I have a tutorial to make poinsettia paper flowers!  You don’t have to worry about watering these poinsettias or keeping them away from your heat vents.  These flowers will last from year to year!

I was inspired to make these when I saw a similar package of four Christmas tree ornaments at Home Goods for $16.99. I actually had them in my cart!  They were made of fabric with script writing and glitter and they were beautiful, but I knew that I could make something similar and save that money for something else!  I came home and began to experiment and the end result were these paper poinsettias.

Below is the printable music sheet with the flower petals already drawn on, so all you have to do is copy it to your desktop, print it on either ivory or white card stock and cut the petals out.  You will need six petals for each flower.

Once cut out, use a small paint brush to apply glue to the edges of each petal and then sprinkle the glitter over the glue.  Set aside until completely dry.  Then, punch a hole near one end of each petal.  Feed the petals onto the stamen stem.  Once they are all on the stem, use a bit of hot glue to hold them in place.  I bent the petals a bit to make them look a little more like the real thing.  If you want a longer stem, attach a sturdy floral wire and wrap tightly with floral tape.

You could use these poinsettia paper flowers as ornaments for your Christmas tree, make your own bouquet, or attach them to your Christmas packages.  I know I’m going to keep mine for next year and will probably make some more!  Also, you can see how I used these paper poinsettia flower petals to make a Christmas garland by just hot gluing them together.

Thank you for the great idea! We had an old hymnal that was my husband’s grandfathers that was ruined when our basement flooded. I was able to salvage some pages, glued them to card stock, and made poinsettias! Now we some beautiful heirlooms for our tree!
