His Eye is on the Sparrow

1.  Why should I feel discouraged,   Why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely  And long for heav'n and home,
When Jesus is my portion?   My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow,   And I know He watches me

2.  "Let not your heart be troubled,"  His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness,  I lose my doubts and fear;
Tho' by the path He leadeth  But one step I may see:
His eye is on the sparrow,  And I know He watches me

3.  Whenever I am tempted,  Whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing,  When hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him,  From care He sets me free:
His eye is on the sparrow,  And I know He cares for me

Chorus

I sing because I'm happy,  I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,  And I know He watches me.

I have been thinking on this hymn a lot over the weekend.  My best friend from elementary school, Lori, just found out last Friday that her Dad has lung cancer.  So, this is for you, Lori, and anyone else who reads this post that may be going through a hard time in this life.  "Tho' by the path He leadeth  But one step I may see:  His eye is on the sparrow;   And I know He watches me!    Praying for you, Lori .   .   .

This song was the inspiration for the above print.  I used graphics found at www.graphicsfairy.blogspot.com for the sparrow, nest, and flourishes.   The print is on fabric that resembles a feed sack material.   I framed this piece in a chippy blue frame.  The wood for the frame is from a Lancaster County porch that was torn down.  This item is for sale in my Etsy shop!
